On January 10, 2025, at the invitation of the organizers of the Alliance4Life initiative, Prof. Jakub Fichna, MD, PhD, Director of the Doctoral School of Molecular Medicine, and Ms. Aleksandra Czekalska, Manager of the Doctoral School Office at the Medical University of Łódź, participated in the Mentoring Workshop for Leaders in Doctoral Education, held at Masaryk University in Brno, at the CEITEC center.
The main theme of the meeting was improving the quality of doctoral education and mentoring in Central and Eastern Europe, including discussing best practices in building mentoring relationships and the importance of mentoring in the development of academic careers.
The workshop was attended by 24 participants from 11 countries, including scientists, mentors, and leaders of scientific institutions from countries involved in the Alliance4Life initiative. The sessions were led by members of ORPHEUS, an organization for doctoral education in biomedicine and health sciences within the European system, representing institutions such as KU Leuven (Belgium), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), and University College Dublin (Ireland).
This event marks the beginning of a path to raise awareness within the academic community about the importance of mentoring and to build lasting structures to support its development at our University.
